Robert
Tudor Rhys Jenkins - Bob to us in Hawkedon - who died on 13th
February,
a few months short of his 90th birthday, quietly endeared himself
to
everyone who came in contact with him.
To
us he was a very efficient and knowledgeable Parish Clerk, who, as
local
Councillor
Mary Evans observed, was far better qualified than any of us to
comment
on the various local planning applications the Parish Council was
called
upon to review. (He just took the Minutes at the meetings - and then
expressed
our views succinctly and expertly!)
His
large family was well represented at the service at St Mary's Church
on
21st
March, each wearing a daffodil, for, above all, Bob was a trueWelshman.
He was also a keen sportsman, playing rugby and cricket for his school
(Merchant Taylors), the old boys (OMT's) and his Cambridge college
(Downing);
a love of sport that took him to all the prime venues (and especially
the Arms Park) as a supporter throughout the years.
After
the tragically early death of his first wife, Bob and Janet forged a
wonderful
thirty three year partnership, both in their professional work
when
Bob set up his own company, and personally. Hawkedon has benefited
enormously from their presence in the village and Bob's expertise as
a qualified surveyor has been invaluable, particularly as he guided
Parish Council members through the technicalities of architectural
plans and proposals. The quiet sense of humour lurking behind the
beard, and the twinkling eye, will be missed by everyone.
