At the beginning of every winter, Suffolk Council distribute piles of grit to strategic sites so they can then be used on the roads should a big freeze arrive. In the past, these piles have been delivered to Hawkedon, but tend to have been washed away by rain or have left the ground uneven and untidy.
The Parish Council have therefore invested in three grit bins, to help ensure the grit is ready and available should it be needed. These have been positioned:
At the end of Cresslands:
Near the War Memorial:
At Thurston End:
The provision of these bins is sure to guarantee a mild winter........
